This set of four information sheets was produced for the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at King’s College London (KCL). Gill worked with a scientist at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at KCL to create the sheets, which were designed to provide members of the public – particularly patients and their families – with information regarding brain function. They cover the topics of Executive Function, White Matter, Brain Ageing and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). The intention was for the information sheets to be made available for general download in pdf format via a Maudsley BRC website.
The project involved designing the layout of the sheets themselves, as well as drawing all of the individual illustrations. Not all of the illustrations shown here are included in the sheets, but all were made available to the Maudsley BRC for use in other presentations. Many of these individual illustrations are also available for download from the Image Gallery of Gill’s collaboration website with KCL, under the restrictions of a Creative Commons licence (details on the Image Gallery webpage).

Once the four information sheets had been finalised, Gill attended a workshop with patient representatives ,who provided their feedback on the sheets. The feedback was generally positive, but unfortunately there was no opportunity to update revise the sheets.
